steady — terms of service
last updated: October 11, 2026
Key points
- Steady is a tool for exploring the Bhagavad Gita. It is not therapy, counseling, or professional advice.
- Steady's meditations, readings and commentaries are prepared in advance. The one thing written while you use the app is a reply in Ask about the Gita, an optional guide to the text (section 5b).
- Some of it was written or translated with the help of AI tools, and may contain mistakes. Do not rely on it for important life decisions.
- You must be at least 16 years old (18 in India) to use the service.
- Steady is free, except the practice builder and Ask about the Gita, which are one optional subscription with a 7-day free trial. Steady is also sustained by voluntary gifts (dāna).
1. Service Description
Steady is a daily meditation practice built on the Bhagavad Gita, for educational and spiritual exploration. Each day centres on a short guided meditation on one verse: a script written for that verse and recorded in advance. Around it are the verses in Sanskrit with translations, a reading for each day, a verse explorer with commentaries from several traditions, and a journal that stays on your phone.
The practice builder, an optional subscription, arranges these same practices each morning and evening around what you write (sections 5a and 9a).
The same subscription opens Ask about the Gita, a short guide to the text (section 5b).
Steady is NOT:
- Therapy, counseling, or mental health treatment
- Medical, psychological, or psychiatric advice
- A substitute for professional help of any kind
- A spiritual authority, guru, or teacher
2. How the Content Is Made
Apart from Ask about the Gita (section 5b), nothing in Steady is generated while you use it: every meditation, reading, translation and commentary was prepared before it reached you. The Sanskrit verses are the traditional text. The commentaries are AI-assisted syntheses, marked as such in the app; they may not represent any commentator or school exactly. Many translations were also made with AI help. This content:
- May be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading
- May not represent any specific scholarly tradition accurately
- Should not be relied upon for important life decisions
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use Steady. In India, you must be at least 18 years old (per the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023). By using Steady, you confirm that you meet the applicable age requirement.
4. Your Responsibilities
- Do not use the service as a substitute for professional help.
- Do not use the service for harassment, illegal activity, or to generate harmful content.
5. Crisis Situations
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, suicidal thoughts, or immediate danger, please contact emergency services or a crisis line:
- India: iCall 9152987821 / Vandrevala Foundation 1860-2662-345
- US: 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988)
- UK: Samaritans 116 123
Steady includes automated crisis detection that may display emergency resources in place of the usual content. This is a safety feature, not a diagnostic tool.
5a. The Practice Builder Is Not Advice
The practice builder chooses meditations, breathing and readings from Steady’s own content, based on a few keywords in what you write. It does not reply to you, and it is not counselling, therapy, medical care or advice. It can suggest a practice that does not fit. If you are in crisis or thinking of harming yourself, contact a crisis line or emergency services now (section 5).
5b. Ask about the Gita Is Not Advice
Ask about the Gita answers with a few sentences written by an AI (Anthropic’s Claude) and one verse with Steady’s own writing on it. It is a guide to the text, not counselling, therapy, medical, legal or financial advice, or a religious ruling, and it can be wrong. It does not speak for Krishna or any tradition. If you are in crisis or thinking of harming yourself, contact a crisis line or emergency services now (section 5).
6. Intellectual Property
The Bhagavad Gita is an ancient text in the public domain. Specific translations and commentaries are attributed to their respective authors and traditions. AI-assisted content is provided as-is. You retain all rights to your own input and reflections.
7. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STEADY IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGES RESULTING FROM RELIANCE ON ANY CONTENT IN THE SERVICE.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
8. Privacy
Your use of Steady is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your data.
9. Pricing & Gifts
Everything in Steady is free except the practice builder and Ask about the Gita, which are one optional subscription (section 9a). Gifts (dāna) are voluntary, unlock nothing, and are separate from the subscription. Gift prompts are optional and never block functionality.
9a. Subscription
- What it is. The subscription is called “Steady”. It unlocks the practice builder: each morning and evening, Steady arranges a practice from its own meditations, breathing and readings to fit what you wrote. It also unlocks Ask about the Gita (section 5b). Nothing else in the app requires it.
- Length and price. It is offered monthly or yearly. The price, in your currency, is shown in the app and by Google Play or the App Store before you confirm, and that is the price you are charged.
- Free trial. New subscribers get 7 days free. The trial is available once, under the store’s rules on who has already had one. If you cancel before the trial ends, you are not charged. If you do not, the trial turns into a paid subscription at the price you were shown, and payment is taken by Google Play or the App Store when it ends.
- Auto-renewal. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year, at the then-current price, until you cancel. To avoid the next charge, cancel before the renewal date; on the App Store, at least 24 hours before the end of the current period (or trial), because Apple may charge for the renewal within the last 24 hours.
- How to cancel. On Android: open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Steady → Cancel subscription. On iPhone or iPad: open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Steady → Cancel Subscription. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. After you cancel, both keep working until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Refunds. Payments are taken and refunded by Google Play or Apple, under their refund policies; we cannot issue refunds ourselves. You can ask Google through Google Play, or Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Price changes. We may change the price. If we do, you will be told in advance by the store and, where the store’s rules or the law require it, asked to agree before the new price applies. You can cancel at any time before it takes effect.
- When it ends. What you wrote and your practice history stay on your phone, and every free part of Steady keeps working.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Significant changes will be communicated via the app.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. For EU users, mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence apply in addition.
